I started this website named 「今日のトーキョー」(Kyou-no-Tokyo) tokyotoday.net in April 2001. The first idea was a co-authored blog for the same generation of me who are living in Tokyo.
In April 2017, I try to change the concept of tokyotoday.net.

This week is the best to watch Sakura flowers in Tokyo. So, fly to Tokyo today if you can, and you must feel the best moment of Spring in Tokyo.
Every year, weather companies issue forecasts of sakura blooming dates of every single area of Japan, and the branches of government tracks the exact date of blooming.
For example, Weathermap, one of weather companies, open special website for Sakura blooming. We can catch the date with graphical map called Sakura Front (桜前線 sakura-zensen).
The most of people love full bloom. It’s very difficult to know when full bloom will com. I could say 3 to 5 days after passing the sakura front, but it depends on the temperature.

I’m living in Berkeley, California. UC Berkeley campus has several Sakura trees and we can enjoy them with Japanese style, we say Hanami (花見, flower watching in Kanji but it means sakura watching).
Cook Bento box, and spread mat or rug under Sakura trees, and have lunch or dinner with Sake. It’s popular way to enjoy Sakura, with not only family and friends but also colleagues of companies.
My favorite place to watch Sakura trees is Nakameguro (中目黒). There are lots of Sakura trees at the both side of tiny Meguro-river (目黒川). Early morning or late night is the best because you can watch with calm atmosphere.
